'Disappearing Ancient Patterns' reflects on the gradual loss of wild ocean spaces and the impact of human activity on Australia's marine environment. Sharks, as apex predators and vital contributors to healthy ocean ecosystems, move in a loose semi-circle through a disappearing field of ocean blue. Encroaching on them, pinks, fluorescent tones and swirling patterns slowly seep into the frame, representing pollution, overfishing and the shrinking habitat they depend upon. These emerging patterns painted in the piece disrupt the ancient patterns of migration that sharks have followed for millions of years.

The use of bright colour draws a connection to something both beautiful and toxic, inviting viewers into a landscape that is visually alluring yet increasingly threatened. As the sharks appear to move away from the encroaching colours, the work questions how much of Australia's marine wilderness can disappear before these ancient rhythms are lost, and what responsibility we share in protecting them.
